You can’t turn on the news or look at a newspaper without seeing some new research article that is telling us that everything is bad for us, and you know what, it’s true. Just about everything is contaminated in some way, whether big or small, and it is our ability to avoid the big and search for the small. With that being said, it is easy to understand why our Americanized diets are so deficient in the essential vitamins and minerals that our bodies need to function at top level and protect against intruders. I’m not one for taking large amounts of vitamins, the Focal Five will do for most of us (click here to learn more about the Focal Five), but here are some reasons that taking those vitamins which we are deficient in makes sense, for ALL of us.
1.Fast Food Junkies
If you live in the land of golden arches and kings, then you need some nutritional help. I hope you are not living there often (actually I would like for you to never visit there again), but if you are, you must realize that these foods provide little to no nutrients for your body. This food is made for your taste buds, not your body.
2.Junk Food Junkies
Ahh, we now enter into Willy Wonka land, full of cup cakes, pizza and chips. This MSG inspired sugar rush of a city may seem like fun today, but tomorrow, not so much. Headaches, immune system dysfunction, and diseases have all been linked in some way to various junk foods and man-made chemical meals.
3.Processed Food Junkies
If you shop more in the lanes than you do the perimeter of the grocery store, then you belong here in the processed food isle. Processed foods have been under major attack these days, and once you really think about it, eating something that was made by some guy in a lab coat seems, well, crazy. All the great foods that our bodies were meant to eat are all on this earth and nothing more is needed. Seriously, are you going to look God in the eye and tell Him he messed up? I’m not.
If you eat a lot of processed foods, like most of us do because it is very very hard to ignore, then you need the Focal Five vitamins. There is no way this type of diet is making the cut.
4.Non Organic Food Junkies
So you eat really clean, but it’s not organic. That’s great; except for all the toxic chemicals that are spread over all of your fruits and veggies, as well as seep into the core of the food, completely taking all the nutrients this great food once had and destroying (did I go too far there?). And do I need to mention the way your chicken was treated and what it was injected with, as well as what it was fed (maybe a little bit of its own poop, or another chickens poop), before it was chopped up, cooked and placed on your plate.(I hope I didn’t go too far there?) You do not get a free get out of jail card here man, take the vitamins and wash your food dude.
5.The Perfect Junkies
Now we get to those of us who try to eat the right way. The organic eating, local food buying, hippie lovers that try to be as close to perfect as possible. Keep it up; you are on the right track. Unfortunately, our parents screwed us and now we still need to take vitamins because of our genes, outside chemicals in the food and air, as well as technology. We all may have a predisposition to any and all disease and illnesses, it’s true. You know the story about uncle Bob that smokes 5 packs a day, drinks like a sailor and has pure fat for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Well, that guys lucky, and not you. Protect yourself. Take the vitamins, eat clean, exercise, laugh, and smile and hope that if you do have a gene out there that is just waiting to be ignited, that it’s not because of the things you are doing for yourself today.
